Martinique - France in the Caribbean

If you are cruising the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, a popular stop is Martinique. And yet, it isn’t completely tourist friendly. There are the obvious, unavoidable barriers - the language is French, not English, and most places accept neither US dollars nor Eastern Caribbean dollars; they only accept Euro. There have also been local business disputes which make getting around the island a little more complicated than it needs to be.

But only a little. Make the effort, with a guide, with a rental car, or by boat. This picturesque island deserves to be seen up close, not just from the top deck of the cruise ship.

Recommendations Available - dining, natural wonders, historic sites, rental cars.
