Petra - not just a movie set

According to my Fitbit, I logged 27,000 steps. A hot, rocky, 27,000 steps in the Jordanian desert. Why? To see Petra. And I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The first major sight is the Treasury - made famous in Indian Jones and the Last Crusade (more popularly known as “the one with Sean Connery”). Although they go into the Treasury and find all sorts of mischief, it is basically a big cave, as far as I could see. But it is still one of the most impressive artifacts I have ever seen; photos do’t do it justice.

I know - I just said photos don’t do it justice, then I post a photo. Let it go.

For the more adventurous though, I recommend the Monastery. It is a chore to get to - even riding a mule. (Usually even if you ride up, you walk down) But it is so worth it. It is such a labor to go up the hundreds of stone steps, that it was almost completely quiet when we got up. I actually got a photo with no tourists in it! If you have ever tried to get a photo of a major attraction without tourists, you know what an achievement that is.

Worth the sore feet. And smelling like a mule
