Cozumel - Diver's Paradise

One of my favorite places in the whole world is Cozumel. A big reason why is the diving - for scuba divers, this is a “must see” destination. But there is a lot for non-divers to enjoy as well.

Those who like the typical tourist fare - beer and snacks by the water, made in China “Mexican” souvenirs, and tequila tasting - will have no problem getting their fill.

For anyone willing to be a little adventurous, this is one of the few places where the driving isn’t too bad. After renting a car (get the insurance!) you are free to roam the island. On the East side you will see long stretches of soft white sand, hardened coral, and beach front bar and grills perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Photo opportunities abound on this much less crowed part of the island. It is easy to find your way back - there is a single road encircling the southern half of Cozumel.

There are so many places to eat that you can definitely find something you like. Probably many things you like. This is a destination where venturing a little ways from the tourist hub can really be rewarding.

For those who dive, there are so many dive shops. My favorite doesn’t really cater to cruise ship passengers because the dive boats leave so early, but there are many fine shops to recommend.

We lived on Cozumel for 6 weeks, and never grew bored, never tired of the food, and never wanted to leave. The biggest problem with Coz as a cruise shop is narrowing down the list of what to do. One day is definitely not enough. But, if that is all you have, make the most of it.
